The other landscape

Gunn, Neil M., 1891-19731988
Books, Manuscripts
Scotsman Gunn's novel is narrated by anthropologist Walter Urquhart and revolves around a manuscript for a novel whose author he's been dispatched to investigate--one Douglas Menzies, a recently widowed composer who lives in solitude by the sea, alienated from the community at large. What Urquhart discovers, in this strangely moving though slightly convoluted tale, is another landscape, a world of feelings and perceptions influenced by the supernatural that forces him to consider the juxtaposition between that realm, his accepted notions of reality, and, most importantly, a love that transcends the boundary between life and death.
