There are three inscriptions inside the book. The first, handwritten, reads: To Mrs Bell of the Wold? with Kind remembrance from the rev. Arthur Thomson. Pilmuir Manse 6th August 1873. The second, handwritten, reads: Bought by J.H.Jamieson at a bookshop in Edinburgh in 1936, and presented by him to the library of the East Lothian Antiquarian and Field Naturalists' Society. The third, printed, reads: East Lothian District Council Local History Centre. Contributed to the Centre by the East Lothian Antiquarian and Field Naturalists' Society.
