Reginald P. Phillimore (1855-1941) was one of Britain's leading postcard artists of his time. A great friend of the Athens of the North, he settled in North Berwick and delighted in depicting various Edinburgh locations, both famous and obscure. Artistically, these cards are some of the finest he produced. He sold his cards through a network of dealers, all over Britain, and since he employed a local schoolgirl to hand colour his drawings, no two coloured cards are alike. Although some of Phillimore's Edinburgh cards are easy to come by, others are excessively rare and sought after today. This book brings together all of Phillimore's Edinburgh postcards, to present a fascinating and unique picture of the highways and byways of the great city, from a series of vintage views by a master artist.
